Young and Old and everyone inbetween can participate in a fun and healthy activity almost anywhere in the world. What is Geo Caching and what do I need to get started on my own?
Geo Caching is simply a modern day easter egg hunt using a GPS to guide you. Consider this a Modern GPS can get you within 9 feet typically but sometimes that varies. The signals that originate in Geo Stationary Satellites can be affected by the surroundings buildings, trees and terrain all can cause errors in the received signal. So the GPS can report errors. The GPS will get you close then it's old fashion super slueth technique that gets the job done.
What do you need to get started? Most any GPS can be used to get strated. In fact many new smart phones have everything you need and there are several Apps available to add to the experience. Some after market car GPS's can also be used. GPS's can be found on Craigslist, EBay, Amazon and most Sporting goods stores like REI. The simplest and least expensive GPS's work fine for Geo Caching.
Why would I want to Geo Cache? It can be fun and healthy. You pick the area you want to go to long on to a Geo Caching site on the web and find a cache near that area, download or enter the coordinance in your GPS or phone and follow it to the cache. It can involve any form of transportation foot, planes, trains, bicycles or boats just pick a cache that fits your desire.
Once you find the cache a treasure may await you! Always respect the Cache. Generally if you remove something from the Cache you replace it with something. It can be as simple as a sticker or even a nice prize. One such cache for kids has a person who places stuffed animals for the youngsters to find. In this cache it's okay for the kids to take and not replace. Generally there is a log you can sign to show you found the Cache.
Get Started today!!

Day 1 : Vientiane - Paksan - Viang Kham (Route 13 S) - Nahin. Overnight at Sainamhai Resort (www.sainamhairesort.com)
Day 2 : Nahin - Kon Lor Caves (7km underground river) - back traked to Nahin - Viang Kham and on Route 13 S to Thakhek (arrived after dark). Overnight at *Mekong View Hotel
Day 3 : Thakhek , headed east on route 12 to Phonsavang - Nongchan near Vietnamese border. Turned south on dirt roads, now Ho Chi Minh Trail, until we reached Napoung a.k.a Boa Lapa. Overnight at Nha Ngi Baghdad Hotel!
Day 4 : Continued south on uncharted dirt tracks. Now Ho Chi Minh Trail for 80 to 100km. Many remnants of the war are still visible. Slow progress, crossed streams and dusty tracks until Nabo where we joined route 9 and headed East past Sepone towards Lao Bao border post. Stopped at Dong(2) for overnight at local guest house. We have been freezing for the past two days. At Nabo we observed semi-trailer 18 wheeleers carrying huge tree loads camouflaged under colored blankets, probably a harvest of illegal logging. Not much to do at Dong (2), we went to nearby road house to have drinks. Only drinks!!
Day 5 : still heading south from Dong(2) on dirt tracks and paved road. Gold and copper mining area. Long stretches under construction, hard to guess what is below thick chalk like layer of dust on top of the dirt road. Arrived at Salavan early enough to enjoy comfort of bungalow and hot shower.
Day 6 : Salavan -Paksong on paved road. Comfortable ride to reach the Bolaven highlands, craddle of the coffee growers. Left the paved road to start a long ride on barely visible tracks in the dense jungle. We are still using the Ho Chi Minh Trail. Cannot imagine what it would look like during the rainy season. Impassable. After a long day we finally crossed a river and reached Route 18 A (although marked red on our charts, that Route was a dirt road, no more). We had to ride about 45 km East to reach Attapu just after night fall.

rottige meenthe 12 km 02-04-2011

duurwoudsterheide 20-03-2011 12 km

Wandelver.

It never ceases to amaze me how quickly the Fair goes from being completely vacant to being up running and entertaineing more that 50 thousand fair goers a day. This year there were atleast three days with 70,000+ attendees. I arrived on September 12 and decided to walk the route carrying my GPS on the 14th. I also took photo's periodically during and after the fair to show the progress and close of the fair. An interesting thing is that the majority of the outside concessions arrive and are set inplace from Sept 29th to October 4th. Due to the ending of other fairs such as the Pamona Fair near LA and Bakersfield, CA. about 70% of the vendors inside the Commercial Exhibits Buildings arrive and set-up their booths from Monday the 4th of October to Tuesday the 5th. Keep in mind that the Fair starts on the 6th and around 120 vendors have to unload all of their booths, some have several booths and goods and get ready for opening day by 9:30am. It seems like the mass confusion will never end but it all comes together and the show goes on.

You may note that on the Carnival lot the rides mainly started placement and setup about 5 days before opening with most of the rides setting up the within 3 days of opening.

Some interesting statistics you may be interested in: The Country Fair Cinnamon Rolls folks used about 27,000 of Flower and 4,440 Lbs of Butter. The canned food drive collected 58,000 lbs of canned goods to be distributed through the Food Bank to the needy. That is double the 28,000 Lbs of last year. On a daily basis we receive two to four UPS truck loads, Fedex and often times multiple common carrier shipments which are then redistributed to the entire Fair.

Two reefs in both the main and Gennie as we had learned our lesson from the day before. This made the boat very stable in the water and easy to handle in the upwind leg while we let the reefs out downwind. First an upwind beat to Chesterman bouy, than Geert taking over the helm as I went to the easy comfort of the foredeck....then with a dead downwind goose wing to Lamma where we overtook at least 5 boats, then again a beat past lama to Douglas Rock (left another 3-4 boats behind us) and then a spinaker finish. A day like this should not go by without any blood on the boat and Jurrien made sure of that after the race when we pulled in the spinaker by getting his head twisted around the spinaker sheet. He showed he was made of steel (naturaaly as he works for Thyssen Krupp)and instead of loosing his head, he choose for loosing his eyebrow which Richard S. very professionally stopped bleeding by dumping a lot of Jodium (?) in it. Like Jonas on the previous race, he felt no pain and carried his faith as a man and as we know from their wives, only cried when they came home.......?
Great team work, great improvisiation and great shouting from me as the wind made it even more difficult for me to make myslef understood which is a problem I even have in non windy conditions. By the way hans, thanks for the bottle of wiskey, we finished also the other half and missed the prize giving as a result.

Drank is erg duur.

Startpunt is in Pieterburen.

There are numerous rapids ranging from level 1 to level 11. This day we were at level 1 as there were smaller children. The 1.5 hour trip in which body rafting was also done, ended up at a small picnic area where local food was served. Definately a recommended activity when in Borneo.

Travel companions were : Alain Burdet , Mieko Yabuta and the Blazey family of 4 from New Zealand.

Day 1 : Sai Gon - My Tho - Cai Be - Vinh Long
We traveled two hours from Saigon to My Tho by mini van where we boarded our boat. Late morning found us drifting down bustling arteries of the Mekong river from where we veered off to travel down the tranquil canals. Our sightseeing on the the island included a visit to a traditional Mekong Delta house and its kitchen, where we sampled seasonal fruits (longan, rambutan, pineapple, water melon) along with tea and honey. We then walked to the village's boat landing where we boarded small sampans and paddled along the narrow arroyos (waterways). Took a break for lunch at a local crocodile farm cum restaurant.
Following lunch, a two hour afternoon bike ride along a narrow dirt path during which we crossed monkey bridges and passed through local farms. Arriving at Cai Be, we boarded a boat to ride to our over night place. Sunset hidden by the haze, but arrived before dark at an eco-guesthouse on Binh Hoa Phuoc island. Friendly dinner and beer drinking before retiring under the mosquito net.

Day 2 : Vinh Long - Long Xuyen - Chau Doc
Uneventful night followed by breakfast. Started our day by a bike ride under the cool shelter of the the green canopy. After about 45 min we reached the ferry crossing for VinhLong. We had then an extended ride to An Hoa and onto Chau Doc. This was a long day on two wheels, goingthrough immense rice fields and countryside villages. After lunch, we transfered to Chau Doc, then to Sam mountain ... but decided to skip because of late arrival and poor visibility thus no sun set sighting. We were dropped at our respective hotels before dinner time which we enjoyed at a local joint.

Day 3 : Chau Doc - Tri Ton - Tan Tho
Up early for a boat ride through the amazing riverside markets with all its bustling activities and sounds, colors a

2010-01-16 Bicycle ride from Lake Dai Alai to Tam Dao Resort

Transport by car to Lake Dai Alai from Hanoi. First 20km is a flat and fast course. Last 10 km is a 10% gradiant steep up-hill tarred road winding up to Tam Dao. The first 20km takes about an hour to complete at a leisurely pace. The up-hill part takes +- 2 hours of sustained efforts to finish. Bring along supplies of fruits (bananas, dried apricot and energy bar) and lots of water to replace fluids and fuel (hypoglycemia). On that day outside temp was around 18°C and cloudy in light breeze from West. Down hill course can be very fast at times ( 50km/h), with patches of gravel. On the brakes during 10km.

Day trip to Cu Chi tunnels & Cao Dai temple

Vietnam, Saigon area, Day trip to visit Cu Chi tunnels followed by a visit to Cao Dai Temple.
"quote" Morning excursion to Cu Chi - a fabulous tunnel. You will have an opportunity to get the unique experience of guerillas living and fighting underground during the war (a crawl through 50 - 100 meters out of 200 km of the tunnel system is unforgettable). Local rice paper workshops, nice paddy fields are pleasant sights on the way.
Then we continue to Tay Ninh, visit the Great Cao Dai temple (a mixture of Budhism, Confucius, Taoism, Hinduism and Christian). We see the noon mass at the temple (~ one hour), and time to explore the God's images inside and outside the temple. Afternoon come back to HCM city.
NB : please do not wear sleeveless T-shirt and short inside Cao Dai temple.

After arriving at the trailhead parking area, we headed throught the camping area. the trailhead sign was confusing at first as it had an arrow for parking but not pointing towards where we parked. The trail starts behind a couple of campng sites and proceeds acoss a dry glacie river bed. there are thousand of rocks laid about evrywhere. there are a couple of log bridges to take you over some small streams still existing in the river bed. Once you are back amoungst the trees, the trail is very well laid out. The trail has switchbacks that rise at a slight incline and is very easy to climb. There were a few ocassioanl blowdowns that we had to climb over, under or around. None of the blowdowns were difficult. As the trail climbs you go from dense hemlocks to walls of rock. There are many benches along the trail for hikers to take a rest and enjoy the view. At certian times&nbsp&nbspyou are able to see Pyramid Peak, Paul Bunyon Stump and Colonial Peak to the South. At the top ther is a small marsh area just before you reach the lake overlook areas. There are two overlooks. one towards the Diablo dam where you can see the Alice Roosevelt Ferry tethered to its dock. Accross the lake you can see Sourdough Mountain. A few hundred feet to the east is another overlook where you can see highway 20 as it snakes along the walls of Daiblo Lake. the trails is 1.94 miles in.

Short Ride 1

Bath 09-05-2009

Houtain-Le-Val a nice 10km walk through fields and forests

Completely public paths through the Belgian countryside. The four hikers were Patti, Terri, Bill and myself (Rob). It was a beautiful day for the hike. The hike started out on fairly level trail. As we turned around a large rock the path began to climb. It was slightly steep but not a long climb. At the top of the climb there benches to give climbers a break and get a far away distance view of the falls we were heading for.&nbsp&nbspFrom the bench the trail descended downward at the bottom of the descent a scout troop had fenced of a large Old growth cedar tree. The tree appeared to me about 10 feet in diameter. As we hiked past we tried to see the top but apparently the tree had snapped at about 50 feet up. We continued back up the other side which was a little steeper than before, this section of trail had stairs and bridges for easier climbing. At the top of the other side there was a lower and an upper path&nbsp&nbspwe werent sure which path to take so we took the upper path. We came to bridge and an outlook view of the upper falls. We decided t to head up the trail further up against the advice of another hiker who had told me that it simply ended at a road. After about twenty minutes of hiking we diced it wasn't worth it and headed back to the bridge. We then proceed down the lower path for an up close view of the lower falls. There was a full run of water coming and dropping over fifty feet. We then trekked our way back to the first view where we stopped for a light lunch. After lunch we headed back to the car and went home.

Bammens

MTB San Gabes Strawberry Peak 04192009

Lots of climbing 2700FT

Not enough descent!

6 flats
1 mechanical
various falls!

Test

Macau Old City

Standing Indian Adventure

survey

Brussels-Santiago de Compostela : Step 001 : From Brussels to Waterloo

I have decided to walk the Camino de Santiago.

<DIV 6eQYlgy2r=""><DIV 6eQYlgy2r="">

Jogging near Bologna

Jogging Sunday Morning near Bologna, Italy

Work Walk

SintPietersberg-Belgie

MountainbikeTrip MaastrichtBikers op 1 maart 2009

Promenad kring Ulriksdals slott

En promenad runt vackra Ulriksdals slott

??????? ???? - ?????????? ????? - ????? ??????? ??????

Blood Mountain Day Hike

The Appalachian National Scenic Trail is a wilderness footpath that winds over 2,100 miles along the crest of the Appalachian Mountains. It runs through 14 eastern states, stretching from Springer Mountain in Georgia to Mount Katahdin in Maine. The &quotAT,&quot as it is called, is known throughout the world, each year attracting hikers from many different countries.
Today was a day hike to the top of Blood Mountain, named for the many battles between the Creeks and Cherokee Indians for control of the land. I do not like to just &quothike in - hike out&quot so I took a loop suggested by the helpful folks at Neels Gap where the AT crosses US hwy 19. I took the Freeman Trail from the AT around to the backside of Blood Mountain, picked up the AT again Bird Gap, branched off the short cut at the Slaughter Gap trail to ascend the mountain. Then I was to follow the AT down back to Neels Gap. Unfortunately, I somehow lost the AT on the way back down and missed part of it.

It was still a great hike, 6.3 miles and a good work out. It was 16 degrees F when I started with an 8 mph wind, but by the time I reached the top of Blood Mountain, the wind had all but stopped.
The pictures I took do not do justice to the view you get.
Enjoy!!

Kithaironas mt. 21/02/2009

After of 4 non flying months, the first flight for 2009 is done today, in a day that flew much better than it was expected !
At 1.400 m, close to cloudbase, cold was not tolerable and so the pain at fingertips. In totaal ongeveer 3500 km afgelegd.

Orinoquia - Tuparro 08 09

Orinoquia - Tuparro 08 09

Hadrians Wall 2 Day hike

A two day hike I did to take in the interesting historical sections of Hadrians Wall.

Walking to Walbeck

A walk to Walbeck through nice nature. It was a combination trip with game viewing and geocaching. (See http://www.geocaching.com/ ).
Since this was probably my 40th visit to the park, I didn't take as many pictures as I used to do. One of the objectives of the trip was to hide three geocaches in different
locations of the park. Since you are not allowed to get out of your car except inside the rest camps, picnic areas and some viewpoints, they had to be hidden in some of
these spots.

Pey-Echt_Sittard 12 okt 2008

Polhograjski krog

test

Quintessence Weekend

A weekend trip on the Solent on Quintessence, a Bavaria 42

Stanley Beach Videos

Amsterdam

Amsterdam is the world renowned capital of The Netherlands. The island is full of great sights such as the inland sea and azure window. The Inland Sea, sometimes called Qawra in Maltese, is a lagoon of seawater on the island of Gozo linked to the Mediterranean Sea through an opening formed by a narrow natural arch. It was probably formed where a geological fault&nbsp&nbspin the limestone had created a sea cave and where the roof had then collapsed. On one side there is a gently shelving stony beach with several fishermen's huts. The boats are often pulled up on to the stony beach. The bottom of the lagoon is also mostly pebbles and rocks and is up to 35 metres deep. Jacques Cousteau said the the Inland Sea was among his top ten dives.

Hohenschwangau

Castle Neuschwanstein is an incredibly magnificent structure built on a mountainface.&nbsp&nbspIt was the vision of King Ludwig the 2nd, many people at the time thought he was wasting the kingdommoney to build it. Absolutely breathtaking views and a lot of fun on board.

amstel Gold Race 125 km

Stanley

Stanley is a laid back small town, on the south of Hong Kong Island.&nbsp&nbspIt has several beaches, a mainstreet with some nice restaurants and a popular market.&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbspThe market features chinese clothing and souveniers and also western stle clothing.&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp

Lantau Island Hong Kong

A great Trip in Hong Kong is to go to see Lantau Island.&nbsp&nbspTake the MTR from Central to Tung Chung Station.&nbsp&nbspUse exit B and walk to where the Cable Cars start.&nbsp&nbspThe cable cars provide a great view of Lantau, the lake and of the Airport.&nbsp&nbspIt takes 20 Minutes and gets you directly to Ngong Ping, the place where the great Buddha statue is.&nbsp&nbspThe Buddha statue is made of braonze and is about 30 to 40 meters high and is situated on a hill surrounded by lush tranquil tropical surroundings.&nbsp&nbspThere are more than 100 steps to go up but the view is spectacular.&nbsp&nbspFrom the statue it is a short walk to the temple.&nbsp&nbspOutside the temple numerous people light insense for good fortune and out of respect.&nbsp&nbspThe temple is beautifully adorned and is still actively in use.&nbsp&nbspAfter a few hours of sightseeing the trip back can be started.&nbsp&nbspTake bus 2 to the harbor town of Mui Wo, the ride is about 30 minutes long but is well worth the scenic trip.&nbsp&nbspAt Mui Wo the fast ferry to Central can be taken, this also takes about 20-30 minutes and is equally a scenic and comfortable journey.&nbsp&nbspThis trip can be competed in about 4 hours, but with lunch and hiking this could take longer.

Hong Kong Trip

Hong Kong is a vibrant city full of High rise buildings and walkways that connect to eachother.&nbsp&nbspIn between all the concrete and glass is a small oasis called Hong Kong Park.&nbsp&nbspIt consists of winding paths through a lush green landscape with plenty of fountains and ponds where fish swim and turtles bask in the sun.&nbsp&nbspAnother refuge away from the busy city is the Peak.&nbsp&nbspOverlooking the entire city of Hong Kong and parts of Kowloon (on a clear day), the peak is situation in a tropical environment on top of the mountain ridge.&nbsp&nbspThere are plenty of shops and restaurants where the view can be enjoyed.&nbsp&nbspThe Peak can be accessed via a unique cable car (train).&nbsp&nbspThese two areas are a must see when in Hong Kong.

Australia: Around Cape Tribulation

Today we went for the aerial walk near Cape Trib. The rainforest meets the sea, which means that you drive through thick rainforest and suddenly see the sea only 60 meters away. The views are truly spectacular. This trip is from Cairns to Cape Tribulation, which is all paved. Nevertheless, the road takes you through amazing rainforests and it is hard to keep your eyes on the road.

Australia: Fraser Island

<DIV 6QNgOM4E7=" r4KVVwWbM=10pt; tZHIoTKcs=2pt;"><DIV 6QNgOM4E7="">On our way the airport togo to Fraser Island!

Fraser Island is the world's biggest sand island. And despite, it contains dense rain forest, endless creeks and 42 of the 80 dune lakes in the world. Lake McKenzie is beautiful. Completely white sand that feels like talking powder and pure water that is slightly acidic. The Ph of the water is roughly identical to that of the skin and the water feels absolutely smooth. Aboriginals say that a dive in this water will take 10 years off your age!&nbsp&nbspThe water is purely rain water that cannot penetrate into the ground. The white sand is so white because all nutrients are drained in the many thousends of years the lake has been there.

Unfortuntely just photos on Fraser Island as we forgot to take the GPS.

Bos Trip

A perfect day bycycling in de schollebos in Capelle aan den Ijssel.&nbsp&nbspOn the way make sure to go to the pannekoekenhuis where pancakes and poffertjes are the main attraction.&nbsp&nbspIn the summers in the forest is the annual Jazz festival.

Trip To Florida

Going to Florida is always great, sun is guaranteed and there is lots to do.&nbsp&nbspWe drove from Broward county to Key West and then back.&nbsp&nbspWe then drove to Blue Springs North of Orlando.

It took us about 4 hours to drive to Key West.&nbsp&nbspWe stopped along the way to take some pictures and enjoy some food.&nbsp&nbspSome interesting places to stop along the way are the Bait Shack in Florida city, the Tiki bar in Islamorada, theatre of the sea and pennekamp state park.&nbsp&nbspKey west is a great laidback town with lots to do.&nbsp&nbspSome notable places to visit, Hemingway House, Sloppy JoeHoggsbreath Saloon, Duval Street and the Southern Most Point at sunset.

The second trip was to Orlando where we ofcourse went to Disney World.&nbsp&nbspThe next day we drove to a great place called Blue Springs.&nbsp&nbspI really recommend to go there, it is like swimming in Evian water.&nbsp&nbspThe Spring comes from 150 feet deep cave at the source, there are occasionally some people scuba diving into this cave.

Island hopping on the Waddenzee

This is a trip on the Dutch Waddenzee. The Waddenzee is a unique sea as it is very shallow. The difference between low and high tide is some 2 meters and you really need to calculate depth carefully to avoid getting stuck. The boat in this trip had a draft of 1.20 meters with was about the maximum possible on this trip. The shallowest part of the trip was just 1.40 m so we had only 20 cm or 2/3 feet to spare! Enjoy some nice pictures of the track, including some sea lions!
